Choosing the Right Tech Stack: Why It Matters More Than You Think
The tech stack you choose for your startup will define your development speed, team hiring costs, scalability ceiling, and long-term maintenance burden. A wrong choice made at the MVP stage can cost you months and lakhs in rewrites later.
At PrakharTech, we've worked with 50+ startups across India. Here's our honest, battle-tested advice on what stack to choose in 2026.
The Frontend: React vs Vue vs Angular in 2026
React.js (Recommended for most startups)
Why: Largest community, most component libraries, best hiring market in India. React's flexibility lets you use it as a pure UI library or a full framework (via Next.js).
Vue.js (Good for smaller teams)
Why: Gentler learning curve, excellent developer experience. Better for smaller teams where backend engineers occasionally contribute to the frontend. However, smaller hiring market in India compared to React.
Angular (Enterprise-first)
Why: Best for large enterprise teams with strict TypeScript requirements and complex data management. Overkill for most startups. Largest bundle size.
Our recommendation: Start with React. If you need SSR/SEO, use Next.js (React with superpowers).
The Backend: Node.js vs Python vs Go
Node.js (Best for JavaScript-first teams)
If your team is already using React, Node.js is the natural choice for your backend — same language, shared code, massive npm ecosystem. Node.js handles I/O-heavy applications (APIs, real-time, chat) exceptionally well.
Python / FastAPI / Django (Best for data-heavy products)
If your product involves machine learning, AI, data analytics, or data pipelines, Python is the clear winner. FastAPI is now the fastest Python web framework, and Django remains the most battle-tested for traditional web apps.
Go / Golang (Best for performance-critical APIs)
Go delivers incredible performance and minimal memory footprint. Ideal for microservices at scale or high-throughput APIs. Smaller talent pool in India makes hiring harder, so only choose Go if performance is a critical constraint.
The Database: PostgreSQL vs MongoDB vs MySQL
PostgreSQL (Recommended default)
PostgreSQL is the most powerful open-source relational database. It handles JSON, full-text search, time-series data, and complex queries. Use PostgreSQL unless you have a specific reason not to.
MongoDB (Good for flexible schemas)
MongoDB is excellent when your data schema is highly variable or hierarchical. Common in content platforms, real-time apps, and catalog-heavy e-commerce. Works seamlessly with Node.js (the MERN stack).
MySQL (Legacy choice)
MySQL is reliable and widely understood in India, but PostgreSQL has surpassed it in features and performance. For new projects, choose PostgreSQL over MySQL.
The Recommended Tech Stacks by Startup Type (2026)

- Frontend: Next.js (for SEO + performance)
- Backend: Node.js or Python (FastAPI)
- Database: PostgreSQL + Redis (for caching)
- Search: Meilisearch or Elasticsearch
- Payments: Razorpay, Cashfree, or Paytm
AI / ML Product
- Frontend: React or Next.js
- Backend: Python (FastAPI)
- ML Framework: PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face
- Database: PostgreSQL + Pinecone (vector DB)
- Infra: AWS SageMaker or GCP Vertex AI
EdTech / LMS Platform
- Frontend: React (Next.js for public pages)
- Backend: Node.js + Python (for video processing)
- Database: PostgreSQL + MongoDB (for flexible course content)
- Video: AWS Elemental or Cloudflare Stream
Common Tech Stack Mistakes Indian Startups Make
- Over-engineering the MVP: Startups choosing microservices and Kubernetes before their first user. Start monolithic, scale later.
- Chasing trendy tech: Choosing Rust or Deno because it's new, not because it solves a problem.
- Ignoring mobile performance: India has 600M+ smartphone users, mostly on 4G. Optimize for mobile from day one.
- Skipping TypeScript: For any app that will be maintained by a team, TypeScript saves 3-5x debugging time.
- No CI/CD from the start: Setting up GitHub Actions and automated testing early prevents deployment nightmares later.
🔑 PrakharTech's Rule of Thumb: For 80% of Indian startups, the right stack is Next.js + Node.js + PostgreSQL + AWS. It's boring, but boring works.
